Rivers are the lifeblood of our landscapes, carving paths from their sources to the sea, and nurturing biodiversity along their banks. In the UK, the River Nene is a prime example, flowing through the heart of England from its source in Northamptonshire to its mouth at Wash. This river, with a history of human navigation dating back to 1713, is not just a waterway but a historical artefact, shaping the lives and livelihoods of those along its banks. It's a testament to the importance of rivers in connecting communities, supporting wildlife, and contributing to the heritage of a region.
As winter sets in, the sunsets are beautiful. Taking an evening walk through scenic fields is enjoyable, especially in the cold mornings or evenings. The views of the endless rivers, hills, and classic countryside are breathtaking. I try to visit most weekends.
